Feel free to substitute margarine for butter if you’re looking for a dairy-free option, or swap out the black currants for another berry if they’re elusive at your local market. It’s also wise to choose firm apples; varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work beautifully here. If allergies are a concern, be mindful of the oats and double-check for gluten-free options if necessary.
