Banana Bread Brownies combine classic flavors into a deliciously moist treat. With ripe bananas, rich frosting, and crunchy walnuts, the brownies offer a perfect twist on a beloved favorite. Enjoy a slice that brings comfort and joy with every bite.

Feel free to swap out walnuts for your favorite nut or even leave them out if you have nut allergies. Using ripe, spotty bananas really enhances the flavor, so don’t be shy if your bananas are looking a bit past their prime. For a lighter version, consider using Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.

Banana Bread Brownies Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 3 – 4 bananas, mashed
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
- 1/2 cup butter
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 15×10-inch jelly roll pan with flour.
- In a large bowl, beat together 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup softened butter, and 2 eggs until the mixture is creamy and well combined.
- Add in 3 to 4 mashed bananas and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Sift together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 3/4 teaspoon salt, then blend the dry mixture into the wet ingredients for about 1 minute.
- Gently stir in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts before spreading the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until the top turns a lovely golden brown.
- While the bars are baking, prepare the frosting by melting 1/2 cup butter in a large saucepan over medium heat until it starts boiling.
- Allow the butter to turn a delicate brown, then promptly remove it from heat.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together 4 cups powdered sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract, and 3 tablespoons milk until smooth; the consistency should be thicker than a glaze but thinner than conventional frosting.
- Once the bars are done baking, use a spatula to spread the brown butter frosting over the warm brownies for easier application.
