Cherry Cheesecake Trifle recipe

When making the Cherry Cheesecake Trifle, you can substitute light cream cheese for a lower-fat option. For a non-dairy alternative, consider using coconut cream instead of whipped topping or yogurt. If you have nut allergies, ensure that your ingredients are free from any cross-contamination, especially with the whipped topping and any cake brands you choose.

Ingredients

  • 1 baked tube pan angel food cake, cut into cubes
  • 3 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (8 ounce) container vanilla yogurt
  • 1 (3 ounce) package French vanilla instant pudding
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 (16 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 (20 ounce) cans cherry pie filling (I use Lite)

Instructions

  1. Beat 24 ounces of cream cheese until light and fluffy, then blend in 8 ounces of vanilla yogurt.
  2. In a smaller bowl, mix 3 ounces of French vanilla instant pudding with 1/2 cup of milk until thickened, then blend into the cream cheese mixture. Fold in all but about 1 cup of the 16 ounces of thawed whipped topping.
  3. In a 4-quart bowl or trifle bowl, evenly spread half of the cream cheese mixture on the bottom.
  4. Top the cream cheese layer with half of the angel food cake cubes, pressing them down lightly with the back of a spoon.
  5. Spread 1 can of cherry pie filling over the cake cubes, covering them completely.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining cream cheese mixture, angel food cake cubes, and the second can of cherry pie filling.
  7. Spread the reserved 1 cup of whipped topping over the final layer of cherry filling.
  8. Cover the trifle and chill overnight before serving. It can keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, assuming it lasts that long.
