For those with allergies or dietary preferences, margarine can be swapped for butter, and you could easily leave out the walnuts if nuts are a concern. Instead of toffee pieces, consider using chopped chocolate or caramel bits for a different flavor profile. When it comes to sourcing ingredients, look for high-quality chocolate chips and fresh walnuts to ensure the cookies have the best taste possible.

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine
  • 2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon Kahlua
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 cup toffee pieces
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Sift together the 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a bowl; set aside.
  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer, place 1 cup butter and 2 cups packed brown sugar. Beat until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure everything mixes evenly.
  4. Add in 2 eggs, 1 tablespoon vanilla, and 1 tablespoon Kahlua, then beat until well combined.
  5. Scrape down the sides of the bowl again for good measure.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture to the mixer bowl, stirring on low speed just until combined.
  7. Fold in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, 1 cup toffee pieces, and 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, mixing on low speed until everything is just incorporated.
  8. Drop tablespoons of dough onto parchment paper-lined baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for approximately 10 minutes or until they are very lightly browned (be careful not to overcook).
  10. Remove the cookies from the oven and cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
