Coconut Ghost Treats are a fun and festive way to celebrate the spooky season. With a delightful combination of crispy cereal, gooey marshmallows, and a sprinkle of coconut, the treats are perfect for Halloween gatherings or fall festivities. Kids and adults alike will love shaping the ghostly goodies.

Feel free to swap butter for margarine if preferred, but avoid reduced calorie options as they don’t work well in the recipe. If you’re looking for a different texture, marshmallow crème can replace the marshmallows. Always check for allergies, especially with assorted candies and frosting, as they may contain nuts or gluten.

Coconut Ghost Treats Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter, or 3 tablespoons margarine
- 1 (10-ounce) package large marshmallows, about 40 or 4 cups miniature marshmallows
- 6 cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies
- Flaked coconut, for decoration
- Canned frosting or decorating gel, for decorating
- Assorted candy, for decoration
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, melt 3 tablespoons of butter over low heat. Once melted, add 1 (10-ounce) package of large marshmallows and stir continuously until they are completely melted and smooth. Remove the saucepan from heat.
- Add 6 cups of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir thoroughly until all the cereal is well coated with the marshmallows.
- To shape the treats, use a 1/2-cup measuring cup that has been lightly coated with cooking spray. Scoop out portions of the warm cereal mixture and use buttered hands to mold each portion into a ghost shape. Place the shaped ghosts on a cooling surface and allow them to cool completely.
- Once cool, it’s time to get creative. Decorate each ghost with flaked coconut to resemble ghostly sheets, and use canned frosting or decorating gel along with assorted candies to create eyes and other fun features.
Tips
- The treats are best enjoyed the same day they are made for optimal freshness. If you need to make them ahead, just store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
- For longer storage, you can freeze the shaped ghosts. Layer them with wax paper in an airtight container and freeze for up to six weeks. Allow them to sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before serving for the best texture.
- Get creative with decorations—use colorful candies and different frosting designs to personalize your Coconut Ghost Treats for any spooky celebration.
