Cookies N Cream Dream Cake recipe

When it comes to making Cookies N Cream Dream Cake, feel free to swap yellow cake mix with a gluten-free version if needed. For a lighter frosting, using Greek yogurt instead of cream cheese can add a tangy twist. Always check for allergies related to dairy, and if you’re short on Oreos, crushed chocolate sandwich cookies work in a pinch. High-quality cocoa-based cookies will keep those flavors singing.

Ingredients

  • 1 (18 1/4 ounce) package yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed Oreo cookies
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 3 – 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans. Make sure to get every nook and cranny so the cake can come out easily.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 (18 1/4 ounce) package of yellow cake mix, 1 cup of sour cream, 1/3 cup of vegetable oil, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of sugar, 4 eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix using an electric mixer for about 3-5 minutes until it’s well blended and smooth.
  3. Gently fold in 1 1/2 cups of crushed Oreo cookies into the batter, being careful not to over mix.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 27-35 minutes, but check with a toothpick around the 27-minute mark to see if it comes out clean.
  5. Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Let them cool completely before frosting.
  6. For the frosting, cream together 1/4 cup of shortening and 4 ounces of cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add 3 cups of powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and 3 tablespoons of milk, mixing until creamy. If it’s too thick, add more powdered sugar until you reach your desired consistency.
  7. Finally, gently stir in 1 cup of crushed Oreo cookies into the frosting, and spread it generously over the cooled cake.
