For those looking to swap ingredients, you can try using a gluten-free cake mix instead of the Duncan Hines devil’s food cake mix if gluten is a concern. If you’re avoiding alcohol, substituting chocolate syrup for the chocolate cream liqueur will keep the flavor profile rich without the spirits. Just make sure to use full-fat cream cheese for that creamy texture, and I recommend high-quality chocolate chips for the best taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 (18 ounce) box duncan hines devil’s food cake mix
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 24 ounces cream cheese (Philadelphia, full-fat)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup chocolate cream liqueur
  • 1 orange, zest of
  • 1/4 cup flour, scant
  • 1/4 cup miniature chocolate chip

Instructions

  1. Set the filling ingredients aside to bring them to room temperature.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine 1 (18 ounce) box of Duncan Hines devil’s food cake mix and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil until well mixed. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9-inch springform pan and bake for 22 to 25 minutes or until set.
  3. Reduce the oven temperature to 300 degrees F. For a moist cheesecake, place a pan of water on the lowest oven rack and spritz the top and sides of the oven with water.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat 24 ounces of cream cheese and 2/3 cup of sugar on low speed until fluffy. Add 4 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Next, incorporate 1/4 cup of chocolate cream liqueur, the zest of 1 orange, and 1/4 cup of scant flour. Finally, fold in 1/4 cup of miniature chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  5. Pour the filling into the prepared crust and bake for about 1 hour. Keep a close eye on it during the last 20 minutes. You’ll want the sides to look firm, but the center should still jiggle slightly.
  6. After baking, turn off the oven but leave the cheesecake inside with the door slightly propped open until it cools. Once cooled, transfer it to the refrigerator and let it chill for 24 to 36 hours for the flavors to peak.

If you’re in the mood for a classic treat, I highly recommend trying Gordon Ramsay’s Baked New York Cheesecake. The creamy texture and hint of lemon make it a wonderful complement to the rich flavors of the Godiva Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake.
