Kahlua Chocolate Chip Cookies bring a delightful twist to the classic cookie recipe. The addition of Kahlua adds a unique flavor that pairs beautifully with chocolate and walnuts, making the treats perfect for any occasion. Let’s whip up a batch of the sweet delights.

For those looking to make substitutions, margarine can replace butter if desired, and you can use either freshly grated or ground cinnamon based on your pantry stock. If you’re allergic to nuts, feel free to omit the walnuts entirely, and if you want to switch up the flours, other blends could work, but ensure they are compatible with the recipe’s texture.

Kahlua Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter or 1/2 cup margarine, room temp
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1 egg, lightly beaten room temp
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup toasted walnuts, measured after rough chop
- 1/3 cup chocolate chips, measured after rough chop
- 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated cinnamon or 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup Kahlua
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, cream together 1/2 cup of unsalted butter (or margarine) and 1/2 cup of brown sugar with 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Stir in 1 lightly beaten egg and 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract until well combined.
- Add in 1/3 cup of toasted walnuts and 1/3 cup of chocolate chips, mixing gently.
- In another bowl, sift together 3/4 cup of whole wheat flour, 3/4 cup of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of freshly grated (or 1/2 teaspoon of ground) cinnamon.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Mix in 1/4 cup of Kahlua until the dough reaches a playdough-like consistency. If it’s too dry, add a splash more Kahlua; if too wet, sprinkle in some flour.
- Roll the dough into a log, divide it into 8 equal pieces, and place the pieces on a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Flatten each piece slightly with the palm of your flour-dusted hand.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cookies are set but still soft; keep an eye on them as oven temperatures can vary.
