No Knead Batter Dinner Rolls Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 packages active dry yeast
- 4 cups sifted flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Pour 1 1/2 cups warm water into a large mixing bowl and sprinkle in 2 packages active dry yeast. Let it stand for a few minutes to activate the yeast.
- Stir to dissolve the yeast completely, then add 2 cups of the sifted flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, 1/3 cup softened shortening, and 1 egg. Mix on medium speed of a mixer for about 1 to 2 minutes until smooth.
- Gradually add the remaining 2 cups of sifted flour and mix by hand until combined. The batter will be thick and sticky, but that’s perfectly fine.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and place it in a warm spot to let the batter rise until it has doubled in size, which should take about 30 minutes.
- While the batter is rising, grease 18 large muffin cups with non-stick spray or butter to prevent sticking.
- Once the batter has risen, stir it gently to deflate it, then spoon it into the greased muffin cups, filling each about halfway full.
- Let the filled muffin cups rise again in a warm place until the batter has reached the tops of the cups, approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F, and bake the rolls for 10 to 15 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking.
