Nutella Bread Pudding recipe

Using slightly stale bread is essential for the best texture, as it soaks up the custard mixture beautifully. If you’re looking for alternatives, any rich bread like brioche or challah works wonders. For a dairy-free option, try substituting light cream with a plant-based alternative, but keep in mind the flavor profile may shift a bit. Always check for allergies, especially with nut products like Nutella.

Serving Size1 (341 g)

Ingredients

  • 12 slices brioche bread or 12 slices challah, at least 1 day old
  • 1 1/2 cups nutella
  • 2 cups light cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish with unsalted butter.
  2. Make 6 sandwiches using the brioche or challah and nutella, ensuring each is generously spread. Cut each sandwich into 6 to 8 pieces, creating delightful little bites.
  3. Pile the sandwich pieces into the prepared baking dish, making sure they’re distributed evenly for even baking.
  4. In a small saucepan, combine the light cream, salt, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat until the mixture is warm, but not boiling.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar and 3 large eggs until smooth. Slowly add the warm cream mixture, stirring constantly to prevent the eggs from cooking and scrambling.
  6. Pour the custard mixture over the bread pieces, ensuring everything is well-coated. Cover the dish with aluminum foil to keep the moisture in during baking.
  7. Bake on the center rack of the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, removing the foil after about 20 minutes to allow the top to brown nicely. You want it golden brown and a bit crispy on top.
  8. Once baked, allow the pudding to rest for at least ten minutes before serving, letting those flavors meld together.
