Oat Rolls are a delightful addition to any meal, combining the wholesome goodness of oats with a soft, pillowy texture. The rolls are perfect for sandwiches or as a side with soups and salads, making them a versatile treat that everyone will love.

When making Oat Rolls, feel free to swap in different oils like olive oil or melted butter for canola oil. If you have allergies, you could use a gluten-free flour blend instead of whole wheat and all-purpose flours, but the texture may vary. Sourcing fresh ingredients, particularly the yeast and oats, ensures that your rolls rise to fluffy perfection.

Oat Rolls Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup lukewarm water, plus 6 tablespoons
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 4 tablespoons canola oil
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
- 3 tablespoons potato flour
- 1/4 cup oat bran
- 1/4 cup nonfat dry milk powder
- 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
Instructions
- Combine 1 cup lukewarm water, 2 tablespoons orange juice, 4 tablespoons canola oil, 3 tablespoons honey, 1 cup old fashioned oats, 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, 1 1/4 teaspoons salt, 3 tablespoons potato flour, 1/4 cup oat bran, 1/4 cup nonfat dry milk powder, and 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast in a large bowl.
- Mix and knead the dough by hand until it becomes soft and smooth.
- Cover the bowl and allow the dough to rise in a warm place until it is quite puffy, which might take about 1 to 2 hours.
- Gently deflate the dough and transfer it to a lightly greased work surface.
- Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and shape each piece into a rough ball.
- Place the rolls in a baking pan lined with parchment paper, ensuring they are spaced apart so they won’t touch each other during baking.
- Cover the pan with lightly greased plastic wrap and let the rolls rise for another 1 to 1 1/4 hours; they won’t double in size.
- Uncover the rolls and bake them in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F until they are golden brown on top but still light-colored on the sides, about 25 minutes.
- After baking, remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for 3-4 minutes before transferring them to cool completely.
