Stuffed Pita Mexican Style recipe

For a delightful twist, consider using whole wheat pita for a heartier flavor or swapping in black beans if you prefer a different bean variety. Fresh ingredients, like ripe avocados and high-quality cheese, will significantly enhance the taste. If you’re aiming for a milder flavor, feel free to reduce the amount of chili sauce or choose a milder cheese instead. Always check for allergies when using cilantro or cheese alternatives.

  • thinly sliced onion
  • chopped fresh tomato
  • avocado, cubed or slices
  • queso fresco or feta cheese, crumbled

Instructions

  2. Optional: Spread some butter on each inner flap to enhance flavor.
  3. Spread a thin layer of refried beans on each inner flap of the pita.
  4. Layer in the rest of the ingredients: add the pan-fried steak, sliced onion, chopped tomato, avocado, queso, and cilantro.
  5. Finish with a few drops of fresh lime juice and a sprinkling of your favorite chili sauce.
  6. Carefully transfer the stuffed pita to a pancake-type grill and lightly toast or fry until golden brown on both sides.
  7. When turning the pita, use long ice cube type prongs to securely keep the filling inside while flipping.

  9. Just before diving in, add some sour cream inside if desired.
