If you’re looking for alternatives, you can use white chocolate instead of semisweet chocolate for a different flavor. For those with allergies, ensure the candies are nut-free and check the icing for gluten if necessary. Pumpkin candies can be found in most stores during the fall season, but you can also use other small candies if you prefer.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces semisweet chocolate, for melting
  • 1 chocolate sugar ice cream cone
  • tiny pumpkin decorative candies, for decoration
  • wax paper, for setting
  • 1 purchased unfrosted plain doughnut or 1 chocolate cake doughnut
  • canned chocolate icing, for frosting
  • multicolored sugar nonpareils or candy sprinkles, for topping
  • chewing gum, for decoration
  • Mini Chiclets, for decoration

Instructions

  1. Melt 2 ounces of semisweet chocolate according to the package instructions, ensuring it is smooth and fully melted.
  2. Take a chocolate sugar ice cream cone and hold it by the open end; dip the bottom half at an angle into the melted chocolate to coat it.
  3. Immediately press tiny pumpkin decorative candies into the melted chocolate on the cone, adhering them well.
  4. Place the cone upright on a piece of wax paper and allow it to sit until the chocolate hardens and sets completely.
  5. While the cone is setting, frost the top and sides of the purchased unfrosted plain doughnut or chocolate cake doughnut with canned chocolate icing, spreading evenly.
  6. Sprinkle multicolored sugar nonpareils or candy sprinkles over the icing to add some festive color and texture.
  7. Once the chocolate on the cone has set, center the open end of the cone on the frosted doughnut, pressing gently to secure it in place.
  8. Use a sharp knife to cut chewing gum or Mini Chiclets into quarters and then stick them around the base of the cone with a little extra icing to make it look like a hat band.

Tips

  • The treats can be made ahead of time; just keep them in an airtight container at room temperature.
  • If you have leftovers, store them in a cool place to prevent the chocolate from melting or softening.
  • Consider decorating the Witch Hat Treats with various candies for a unique twist each time you make them.
